FUTURE PROJECTS
Land Management
Tourism and Bird Watching

Land Management
Mugongo has always been a working farm. The commercial flower business will remain in operation and we are exploring ways to responsibly develop other resources to make the farm more self-sufficient.

In 2009 we plan to partner with an agricultural college in Ruhengeri to develop a mid-size state-of-the-art dairy and teaching facility. We also plan to expand our potato and vegetable growing program, not only for orphanage use but for commercial sales as well. In addition, we hope to manage the eucalyptus grove by harvesting mature trees, selling wood, and planting new trees.

Tourism and Bird Watching
Roz’s house and gardens and the restored pyrethrum drying house have become a major tourist destination in Rwanda and we are working with local tour guides to develop this resource responsibly and with sensitivity toward the community and the environment.

We are introducing the children to gardening and bird-watching, hoping that some of them may choose to stay and make a life at Mugongo, where it is still a small piece of Heaven on Earth.
